Kassala Standards Authority Intensifies Market Crackdown to Protect Consumers

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) continues to strengthen its effective regulatory role and expand its field operations across the country, reaffirming its position as a vigilant guardian and a strong shield protecting consumers from all forms of manipulation involving food, medicines, and consumer goods.
As part of these comprehensive field efforts, the SSMO branch in Kassala State, in close coordination with the Higher Consumer Protection Committee and relevant security and executive authorities, carried out a series of intensive joint inspection campaigns targeting local markets and commercial shops within residential areas across the state to assess compliance with approved standards and regulations.
The decisive field operations resulted in identifying a number of commercial establishments violating health and technical requirements, documenting serious violations including improper storage practices, non-compliant display of goods, and the seizure of significant quantities of cooking oils that failed to meet required packaging and safety standards.
The campaign was conducted through high-level coordination involving the Economic Security Department, the Consumer Protection Prosecution and Investigation Unit, and the Kassala Health Department, which immediately took the necessary legal and judicial measures against violators to prevent the recurrence of practices that threaten public health.
Reinforcing the organization’s strict regulatory and awareness mission, Mr. Khalid Haj Majid, Director of the SSMO branch in Kassala State, issued a stern warning to traders and suppliers, stressing the need for full compliance with standards and market regulations.
He affirmed that the branch would show no tolerance toward any entity that compromises citizens’ safety and health, announcing the continuation and expansion of weekly inspection campaigns across all areas of the state to promote responsible compliance and ensure a safe commercial environment that meets national safety requirements.
