Mining Minister: Ariab Investments to Safeguard Community Rights

Sudan’s Minister of Minerals, Noor Al-Daem Taha, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to protecting the rights of local communities in Ariab, Red Sea State, stressing that no investment project will proceed without formal agreements that safeguard the interests of both the state and local residents.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bir Al-Ajam Hospital, the minister said local communities are the cornerstone of sustainable investment, emphasizing that real development begins with improving essential services, including healthcare, education, roads, clean water, and electricity.

He stated that the government is the sole authority responsible for approving investment agreements and pledged that the Ministry of Minerals will not sign any deal unless it guarantees direct benefits for local communities through corporate social responsibility projects and sustainable development initiatives.

Taha noted that Ariab possesses significant mineral resources that have not been fully utilized for years. He said the next phase will focus on regulating the mining sector through transparent legal frameworks that protect national interests, attract responsible investment, and ensure citizens benefit from the country’s natural wealth.

The minister added that increasing mineral production and strengthening the sector’s contribution to the national economy are among the ministry’s key priorities, while directing resource revenues toward development projects without tribal or regional bias.

He also called on local communities to become active partners in development by supporting investment projects, promoting youth training, and creating sustainable employment opportunities. Addressing investors, Taha said Ariab is now ready to welcome new investments, with Sudan committed to providing a stable investment environment based on transparency, the rule of law, and mutual benefit
