The Lifeline of Education Returns: First Group of Sudanese Academics Departs Cairo to Rebuild Universities

In a decisive strategic step towards restoring stability to the education system and building a post-crisis future, the first group of Sudanese university and higher institute professors, along with their families, departed the Egyptian capital, Cairo, for their homeland. This step marks the launch of an ambitious national program aimed at repatriating 1,000 highly qualified academics.

The program is being launched under the direct patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and with full coordination between the Sudanese Professional Union of University and Higher Institute Professors and the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Cairo. The returning academic train operates under the slogan “We Return Home, We Shape the Future, We Build Sudan.” In a statement, the Cultural Attaché at the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, Dr. Asim Ahmed Hassan, confirmed that the repatriation of professors and their families will not stop here, but is an ongoing and systematic process. He pointed out that the return of these academic luminaries represents direct support and a real bridge for the recovery of Sudanese universities and facilitates the resumption of their work, emphasizing the continuation of high-level coordination to overcome all obstacles. Obstacles and Facilitating Return Procedures

For his part, Dr. Asim Hassan commended the pivotal role played by the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return, chaired by Engineer Mohamed Wadaa, praising the significant financial and logistical support provided by the Zakat Bureau to ensure the success of these programs.

In the same vein, the rapporteur of the Hope Committee, Professor Hassan Khalid, emphasized that the return of academic minds and talents is not merely a fleeting occurrence, but rather the cornerstone and foundation for rebuilding the higher education sector. He also announced the continuation and expansion of free return programs for all Sudanese citizens wishing to return from various countries abroad. The return of the academic elite to Sudan is not simply a train journey or a reverse evacuation plan, but rather an official declaration of the commencement of the intellectual reconstruction effort and the beginning of a new era in which the country relies on its brilliant minds to reshape the future and heal the wounds of the education sector.
