National Health Insurance Fund, East Darfur Discuss Expanding Healthcare Services for Displaced People

The Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Dr. Farouq Nour Al-Daem, met with the Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development in East Darfur State, Dr. Al-Shafie Mohammed Ahmed, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in developing healthcare services, particularly those provided to people displaced by the war.
During the meeting, Dr. Farouq presented a comprehensive briefing on the interventions implemented by the NHIF since the outbreak of the conflict.
He explained that these efforts included organizing medical outreach camps in displacement camps and providing healthcare and medicines to affected communities, helping to ease the suffering of displaced people and improve their access to healthcare services.
Dr. Farouq praised the significant role played by development partners in supporting these interventions, stressing that coordination and cooperation between the NHIF, the Ministry of Health, and partners had ensured the continued delivery of healthcare services despite the challenges posed by the war.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to expand healthcare services, strengthen health insurance coverage, and support health facilities serving large numbers of displaced people, ensuring that healthcare reaches the most vulnerable groups.
For his part, Dr. Al-Shafie Mohammed Ahmed, Director General of the Ministry of Health and Social Development in East Darfur State, commended the National Health Insurance Fund for its role in providing healthcare services in the state both before and after the outbreak of the war, particularly for displaced populations.
He said the Fund’s interventions had helped maintain healthcare services and alleviate the suffering of people affected by the conflict, praising the medical camps and healthcare services delivered in displacement areas and camps.
Dr. Al-Shafie reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to securing the necessary funding to support displaced people and expanding the issuance of health insurance cards to ensure they have access to healthcare services wherever they are located.
He also confirmed the state’s intention to join the Additional Medical Services Package Program, which is expected to broaden the range of healthcare services available to insured beneficiaries and displaced people while enhancing the quality of healthcare across the state.
