Sudan and Kuwait: Renewed Health Cooperation

On the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly meetings in Geneva, Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health met with the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Abdullah Al-Sabah, in the presence of the Sudanese Ambassador and the Kuwaiti Ambassador in Geneva.
The Sudanese Minister expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Kuwait for the significant support provided during the previous period, particularly throughout the war. He praised the role of the Kuwaiti government through its ambassador to Sudan, as well as the contributions of Kuwaiti organizations, especially the Kuwait Patients Helping Fund Society and Direct Aid Society, which have supported Sudan’s health sector.
The minister also called for enhanced cooperation in supporting health emergencies and combating disease vectors, while outlining the Ministry’s vision for rehabilitating the health sector in line with the 2026–2030 strategic plan.
He further referred to the damage inflicted on health institutions and hospitals, including the Kuwaiti Hospital in Khartoum, as a result of violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia, reiterating Sudan’s gratitude for Kuwait’s substantial support.
For his part, the Deputy Kuwaiti Ambassador affirmed his country’s continued support for Sudan, emphasizing the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations and Kuwait’s commitment to the health sector.
He also highlighted efforts to coordinate training programs and secondments to Kuwait, particularly in advanced medical specialties, forensic medicine, and nursing. He commended the role of Sudanese medical personnel in Kuwait and called for greater coordination with the Sudan Medical Specialization Board and the Sudanese Ministry of Health.
The meeting reflects Kuwait’s commitment to continuing its support for Sudan in its journey toward health recovery, strengthening medical infrastructure, and rebuilding health institutions.
