Conclusion of Training of Trainers (TOT) Course on Management of Meningitis, Cholera, and Dengue Fever Cases in Dongola

The Federal Ministry of Health, represented by the General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with support from the European Union Humanitarian Aid, has concluded a Training of Trainers (TOT) course on the management of meningitis, cholera, and dengue fever cases.

The training was held in Dongola, Northern State, and lasted for four days.
The course targeted healthcare personnel from the Northern and River Nile states through a comprehensive theoretical and practical training program aimed at strengthening preparedness and response capacities, early detection, and efficient case management.
One of the key components of the training was hands-on practical sessions on collecting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples according to standard procedures for lumbar puncture (LP). This aimed to improve the diagnosis of meningitis cases and enhance outbreak response.
The training included rich scientific discussions and practical exchange of experiences, reflecting noticeable improvements in participants’ clinical knowledge, outbreak management skills, and overall readiness for health emergencies.

Participants were also nominated to work closely with the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) to support the safe and timely transportation of meningitis samples, conduct laboratory testing, and confirm cases—contributing to strengthening surveillance systems and early outbreak detection in both states.
