A 15-year prison sentence to a defendant of molesting a girl from the village of Wad Salman

The General Court of Singa, presided over by Maulana Abdullatif Adam Mohamed Ali, sentenced the defendant (H A M A) to 15 years of imprisonment from the date of his arrest and a fine of five million pounds. In case of non-payment, an additional six months of imprisonment will be applied consecutively for violating Articles 45 and 86 of the Child Law of 2010. He was also sentenced to one year of imprisonment consecutively, a fine of five hundred thousand pounds, and three months of imprisonment consecutively for violating Article 20/A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law of 1994. Additionally, he received 40 lashes for violating Article 78 of the Criminal Code of 1991.

The court ordered the deduction of three million pounds from the fine as compensation for the victim, as the crime was proven by the confession of the accused and the testimony of witnesses who saw him enter the victim’s premises
and saw him come out after his crime, and the accused confessed to drinking alcohol at the time of the incident and using drugs.

The court decided to increase the punishment due to the convict’s behavior, his encroachment on the sanctity of homes, and the commission of the crime against the girl. The tightening of the sentence is required for public deterrence, to protect children and society, and to eradicate such crimes, which have become an obsession that worries families and the community. The verdict was issued in the presence of the accused’s lawyer and the victim’s family, along with the defense lawyer and the delegate of the Child Welfare Council.
