Human Resources and Social Welfare Minister receives AcoGaps delegation

Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Dr. Moatasem Ahmed Saleh, met at his office in Port Sudan with a delegation from the African Center for Governance, Peace and Transition Studies (AcoGaps). The Minister opened the meeting by welcoming the delegation and emphasizing the importance of civil society and training and research centers in the success of early recovery and reconstruction. He also explained that the Ministry, in its post-integration status, cares for citizens from birth until death through its affiliated agencies. He also emphasized that the Ministry’s most important goals are citizens, focusing on their recovery from post-war trauma, improving their livelihoods, and providing them with the means to live. This is achieved through raising community awareness and training and preparing citizens for reintegration into society. All of this is achieved through partnerships with entities capable of achieving these goals, such as the AcoGaps. He expressed his happiness to work with the Center. For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Zain Al-Abidin, as head of the delegation, opened his speech by congratulating His Excellency the Minister on gaining the confidence of the state leadership in this assignment at this important stage in the country’s history. He provided an overview of the center’s activities, programs, and initiatives following the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023, due to the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces militia. He explained that the center has directed its energy to support national efforts in managing and coordinating humanitarian aid, preparing entrepreneurs, and providing livelihoods, in addition to building the capacity of state employees, civil society, and the private sector in administrative skills, psychological and social support, social protection issues, early recovery, and reconstruction, in addition to upgrading soft skills and providing livelihoods. The center has held forty-four events that have benefited more than three thousand five hundred people. He noted that cooperation between the center and the ministry began with the establishment of the center in 2019, and the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding and pivotal activities with its units. Dr. Moatasem Ahmed Saleh, Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, praised the African Center for its national efforts, stressing the Ministry’s commitment to training and qualifications to prepare citizens for work and provide livelihoods through the provision of new professions and the development of the capacities of workers in the public and private sectors to enhance efficiency and increase productivity. His Excellency explained the Ministry’s commitment to community peace and peaceful coexistence, and to addressing the negative social repercussions of resentment, hatred, and accumulated injustice, as well as the imbalance of societal balances resulting from the violations and crimes committed by the militias. He stated that his Ministry will focus on social justice, social protection, and creating conditions for people to return to their homes in an atmosphere of brotherhood and friendship. He added that civil society organizations and enlightenment centers will be partners in implementing the Ministry’s plans, programs, and interventions.

The African Center delegation included Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Abdel Rahim, an expert in African affairs; Dr. Taj El-Din Banaga, an expert in political and constitutional affairs; and Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohkar, an expert in digital transformation.
