Dr. Nawara Abu Mohammed addresses a workshop on agenda and fair participation in rebuilding Sudan after the war

After years of conflict and war in Sudan, women face significant challenges and fair participation in the construction of the State. Women are not given enough space in negotiations and decision-making processes, although they are more affected by the war.
Women National Group (WNG), in cooperation with the Commission for Combating Violence Against Women Unit and the Center for Women’s Studies at Red Sea University, is organizing an important workshop titled: “Sudanese Women,s agenda and fair participation in rebuilding Sudan after the war on Monday, September 8, 2025, in Port Sudan.
The objectives and goals of the workshop are to strengthen the leading role of Sudanese women in the peace process and in rebuilding Sudan after the war. This includes prioritizing women’s post-war needs and formulating a unified agenda, as well as highlighting women’s contributions to peace efforts.
Member of the sovereign Council Dr. Nawara Abu Mohammed Mohamed Taher affirmed the state’s support and interest in women and enhancing their role to advance efforts to contribute to the phases of reconstruction, stability, and peace.
Addressing the workshop entitled “Sudanese Women’s Agenda and Fair Participation in rebuilding Sudan after the war , which was organized by the National Women’s Group in cooperation with the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and the Institute of Women’s Studies at the Red Sea University at the Police Club in Port Sudan, Nawara added that women have proven to be a key pillar in national action and participation in policy development and the restoration of state institutions.
The sovereign member stressed that women’s participation in this landmark moment in Sudan’s history is a national affair.
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Women National Group (WNG), Dr. Sarah Makki Hassan Abu ,expressed her thanks and appreciation to the attendees and said that the conference is exceptional because it addresses women and women’s issues. “We agree and disagree; we reconcile and unite for Sudan.”
Dr.Sarah said that the workshop comes at a decisive moment to reshape the political and social landscape from a women’s perspective that promotes women’s participation in all national fields.
During the workshop, a number of papers were presented with the participation of the relevant authorities.
The workshop discussed several key themes, including women’s participation in peace building and transitional justice, political and economic empowerment, psychosocial support, and legislative reforms. It also aims to issue a unified national document for the Sudanese women’s agenda and provide practical recommendations to decision-makers including allocating fair positions to women, and adopting a national plan for women’s recovery after the war.
