Khartoum State Welcomes the Formation of Higher Committee to Prepare Suitable Environment for Citizens’ Return to State

In its meeting yesterday, chaired by Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza, the Supreme Committee for Emergency and Crisis Management in Khartoum State welcomed the decision of Head of the Sovereignty Council Lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan to form a higher committee, headed by Sovereignty Council member Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, to prepare a suitable environment for citizens’ return to Khartoum State and normalize life.
The meeting affirmed that the committee’s tasks and responsibilities will support efforts to restore water and electricity services and rehabilitate health facilities and road and transportation infrastructure.

Separately, the meeting of the Supreme Emergency Committee reviewed the efforts made to operate the Beit Al-Mal Water Station in Omdurman and commended the efforts of the Electricity Department to connect electricity to the Al-Shajara Water Station. It also commended the efforts made by the Director General of the Khartoum Water Corporation to address the problems of the sharp decline in the Nile water level, which has affected the operation of the Khartoum North and Al-Salha Water Stations, south of Omdurman.

The meeting also reviewed the Electricity Authority’s efforts to rehabilitate electricity transformer stations and transmission lines in Khartoum North, and East Nile.
Furthermore, the meeting directed the implementation of a mobilization to clean, light, and open the streets within the Ahmed Sharafi Cemetery, while increasing the spaces so that citizens are not forced to bury their dead outside the cemetery walls.
Regarding the autumn season, the meeting directed redoubled efforts to drain low-lying areas, open drains, and activate public efforts to drain water from within neighborhoods.

The meeting endorsed a program to continue removing the remains of the dead from streets and buildings and bury them in cemeteries. The meeting also directed the Land Protection Authority to work with local authorities to complete the removal of informal housing.
