Stakeholders Consultation Workshop Kicks off

Port Sudan witnessed, today, the launching of
a partnership project through the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the European Union to enhance food security and resilience in rural communities, and around the Dinder National Park.
This project enhances harmony with nature and contributes to bringing hope and peace to the Sudanese people.
This was during a consultative workshop for stakeholders, which included a number of United Nations agencies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, in the presence of a number of those interested in wildlife.
During the workshop, Dr. Mona Zein, Deputy Director of the United Nations Environment Program, presented the current situation in Sudan and its need for recovery, in addition to the European Union and United Nations Environment Program project and the importance of partnership and cooperation, challenges and risk management. Dr. Mona Zein, Deputy Director of the United Nations Environment Program, reassured that the government had received assurances to secure the Dinder National Park, after fears and warnings, pointing out that after that there is no fear, she said that they will work in accessing the targeted areas of the Dinder Reserve after it was described as a challenge.
Dr. Mona added that there are major challenges represented by the security impact, armed conflicts, destruction of resources and infrastructure, forced displacement and difficulty of stability.
She called for the need to cooperate with stakeholders and open partnerships due to their importance, indicating that the United Nations Environment Program works through these partnerships to enhance food security and resilience in rural communities in and around the reserve.
The Sustainable Natural Resources and Livelihoods (SNPR) Programme team presented the partnership between IFAD and UNEP in the new century, and gave an overview of the collaboration and its importance in the new project and the implementation methodology, in addition to the main activities plan.
