Perriello in Regional Tour on Sudan

U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello has embarked on a new diplomatic tour that includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, as part of efforts to end the ongoing conflict and growing famine in Sudan. The Office of the Spokesperson announced the tour, which began on Sunday, noting the importance of this step in promoting peace and providing humanitarian assistance.
The tour aims at following up the results of the Alignment for Life and Peace Initiative in Sudan, where it will focus on coordinating efforts between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to expand humanitarian access.
It will also work to ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian and human rights laws, reflecting the United States’ commitment to achieving stability in the region.
During his visit, Perriello will meet with Sudanese refugees in host countries, as well as with civilian leaders and government officials.
The tour will also include discussions with international partners, including the Arab League and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), reflecting the United States’ commitment to working with the international community to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
