Deputy Governor of River Nile State launches environmental sanitation campaign in Atbara

Minister of Culture, Information and Communications, Deputy Governor of River Nile State, launched on Satuday at the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports in the state in Atbara the awareness campaign for environmental sanitation, which was organized by the council in partnership with the SudaneseFamily Planning Association and coordination with Atbara Locality, in the presence and honor of Ms. Hawa Mohamed Idris, Head of the Supreme Council for Youth, Dr. Magda Abdullah, Minister of Health in the state, Mr. Osama Al-Labib, Executive Director of Atbara Locality, Ms. Kawthar Mohamed Ibrahim, Executive Director of the Sudanese Family Planning Association in the state, and number of leaders of the council, the locality, and the association, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and sports federations for leagues and juniors.

For his part, the Deputy Governor praised all parties that contributed to the launch and success of the campaign, stressing the state government’s support for the campaign and everything that would provide and upgrade health services for people and the environment in the state to prevent disasters and the negative effects of the rains and floods that recently hit the state and caused the spread of cholera and epidemic diseases.

He said that the campaign, which was launched under the auspices of the governor, contributes to raising the awareness of society, especially the youth, to participate in various national programs.

He called on the Supreme Council for Youth in the state to focus on implementing such programs to revive and develop the national spirit of the youth to play their role and pay attention to having a clear role in sustainable development.
He called for benefiting from the heavy rains that fell this year in expanding rain-fed agriculture to provide food and investment.
He called for attention to rehabilitating youth centers in all localities to lead training operations in the vocational and technical fields for the youth.
He praised the role of the youth and their support for the armed forces to maintain the security and safety of the country.
The Minister of Youth reviewed the objectives of the awareness campaign, most notably emphasizing the slogan (Health is everyone’s responsibility) and that there are roles required from society in all its sectors and civil society organizations in this regard and expanding the provision of services in coordination with government institutions.
She praised the efforts of the Sudanese Family Planning Association in this regard and their support for the Council’s programs.

She announced an existing partnership between them and the Association and that they look forward to more partnerships with it and the rest of the organizations to achieve the desired goals.
She added that the Council’s awareness campaign targeted the popular market site, the fish market, and neighborhoods of the squares affected by crowded markets and the abundance of waste, and called for the necessity of combining official and popular efforts to overcome challenges and limit the spread of cholera and epidemics.
She said that the Council’s slogan is (Together we can).
For her part, the Executive Director of the Family Planning Association in the state announced the association’s commitment to proceed with coordination with the Council and the state government to achieve common goals in reproductive health and public health.
She said that the association took the initiative in coordination with the council and Atbara locality, believing in the importance of environmental sanitation and awareness in combating the cholera epidemic, noting that the campaign program is the second program implemented in the same framework to preserve human health and the environment in Atbara. She added that the campaign program includes hand washing, cleanliness and sterilization, in addition to addressing the public to raise awareness of the dangers of epidemics, especially cholera, and ways to prevent it.
