Orbits: Why Repeating the Same Mistakes

According to news articles published in several social media outlets, the Advisor of South Sudan President for Security Affairs, Tut Gulwak, stated after his meeting with the Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, 1st. Lt. Gen. Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan in Port Sudan, that he met with the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Rapid Support Forces, Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahim Dagalo who asked the government of South Sudan to adapt a new peace initiative to end the war in Sudan.

Assuming that the above news article is true, several questions arise on top of which is “What about Jeddah platform?

We all know that Jeddah Declaration included several recommedations, if implemented the war could have stopped leading to laying the concrete foundation of peace, considering that Jeddah initiative was signed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

What do we expect from any new platform? Do we expect better outcomes than those of Jeddah Declaration?

It goes without saying that any new platform will not include the items discussed in Jeddah Forun e. g. ceasefire, RSF evacuation from public facilities and citizens’ residences, opening corridors for the access of humanitarian assistance, etc.

It is definite that both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudanese people will simply refuse to give in to their demands which was stipulated in Jeddah Declaration.
In my opinion, the issue is not about the venue of the platform but it is about practicing pressure on the stubborn party which refused to implement what is stipulated in Jeddah Declaration.

My guideline was and is the great wisdom of Einstein, “Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.
