SSMO, Red Sea Sector, and Quarantine Department Renew Commitment to Strengthening Technical Cooperation

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), Red Sea Sector, and the Quarantine Department have renewed their commitment to continuing technical cooperation and enhancing coordination in regulatory oversight.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a joint meeting held yesterday evening at the office of the Director of the SSMO Red Sea Sector, where participants discussed mechanisms for strengthening joint operations and improving the food inspection system at various entry points.
The meeting brought together Dr. Al-Fatih Rabie Abdullah, National Director of Quarantine; Eng. Al-Waleed Mohamed Osman, Director of the SSMO Red Sea Sector; and Dr. Ahmed Dureir, State Director of Quarantine, along with a number of technical specialists.
The gathering served as a platform for exchanging expertise and perspectives on the effective implementation of national standards and health requirements for imported food products, while enhancing the efficiency of food inspection and regulatory control.
Participants emphasized that the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization serves as the country’s primary technical authority responsible for establishing standards that ensure the quality and safety of imported, exported, and locally produced food products.
Meanwhile, the Quarantine Department plays a pivotal role in enforcing these standards and implementing health requirements and inspection procedures at ports and border crossings. They stressed that close coordination between the two institutions is essential for strengthening regulatory oversight, protecting consumers, and safeguarding public health.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of expanding technical cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building the capacities of technical personnel from both institutions to further improve inspection performance and enhance the effectiveness of the national food control system.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining close coordination and cooperation between the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization and the Quarantine Department to ensure the smooth movement of food commodities in compliance with the required technical standards and public health regulations.
