Sovereignty Council Advisor Reveals Reasons for Failure of Jeddah Talks and International Initiatives

Dr. Amjad Farid, Advisor to Head of the Sovereignty Council for Political and International Affairs, affirmed in an interview with TRT that achieving lasting peace requires the complete dismantling of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia as an armed force operating outside the authority of the state.

Misdiagnosis of the Crisis

Farid explained that the primary reason behind the failure of the Jeddah talks and international initiatives lies in the misdiagnosis of the Sudanese crisis. He emphasized that the conflict is not a political power struggle, but rather a confrontation between the legitimate state and an armed rebel group.

The Ceasefire Condition

The Sovereignty Council advisor indicated that the complete withdrawal of the RSF militia from populated areas is a fundamental condition for any ceasefire declaration. He warned that declaring a truce without this condition could pave the way for the country’s division.
