IGAD Secretary General to Arrive in Khartoum Today

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, will arrive in Khartoum today, Thursday, for a one-day official visit.
He will hold talks with a number of senior state officials, including Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, regarding the peace process in Sudan and the role the sub-regional organization can play in it.
It is to be noted that an advance delegation from IGAD arrived in Port Sudan on Wednesday to oversee preparations for the visit and finalize the details of the program.
IGAD Executive Secretary is scheduled to hold a press conference at the conclusion of the visit to highlight its outcomes. The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), along with the African Union, the Arab League, the United Nations, and the European Union, forms what is known as the “International Quintet” involved in arranging the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, as a prelude to reviving the political transition process.
