Higher Education Minister: 364,830 Students Planned for 2026–2027 Admissions as Universities Drive National Recovery

Sudan’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has approved a plan to admit 364,830 students for the 2026–2027 academic year, marking the return of universities as part of the country’s post-war recovery.
Minister Prof. Ahmed Madawi Musa said that 556,000 students sat for the national secondary school examinations this year, describing it as a strong sign of the Sudanese people’s commitment to education despite the challenges of war.
He confirmed that universities are resuming normal operations following extensive preparations, including campus assessments, improved staff salaries, the recruitment of 3,000 teaching assistants, and accommodation for around 60,000 students. The Ministry is also promoting future-oriented programs such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, ICT, and Renewable Energy, while accelerating digital transformation and academic quality assurance.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ihlam Ali Sharif, Director General of Admissions, announced that all admissions systems and databases have been fully restored, ensuring readiness for the upcoming admission process and supporting the establishment of a national higher education data bank.
