Journalist Yousra Elbaqir: UAE’s Involvement in Sudan Conferences Legitimizes Those Who Control the Bloodshed of Sudanese People:

Prominent Sudanese journalist Yousra Elbaqir launched a scathing attack on the way European policymakers are handling the Sudanese crisis, describing the logic of some Western leaders as “deliberate ignorance” and “political sterility.”

In an exclusive interview with Middle East Eye, Elbaqir expressed her shock and strong condemnation of the approach taken by some European circles who believe that “it is better to deal with the Rapid Support Forces through the UAE rather than dealing with forces that Europe classifies as enemies.”

Elbaqir explained that the UAE’s role in Sudan has gone beyond mere funding and arming, noting that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti,” already possesses immense wealth derived from gold mines, in addition to a network of relationships with the Wagner Group and the European Union itself. She emphasized that “what Abu Dhabi has provided to Hemedti is not just money and weapons, but also the political cover and international immunity it has granted him, shielding him from accountability.”

She added, “The UAE’s unlimited support for the Rapid Support Forces is what pushed the Sudanese state (the army) to turn to other parties that Europe classifies as enemies, in a natural reaction to seek a stronger balance.”

The journalist also strongly condemned the continued inclusion of the UAE by Western powers in all peace talks and humanitarian conferences related to Sudan. She considered this insistence a blatant provocation to the Sudanese people, pushing them to protest, as it places Abu Dhabi in the position of “controller and decision-maker” over Sudan’s fate—precisely the strategic objective that Hemedti has been pursuing since the beginning of the conflict.
