Cabinet Approves Regional Governance for Darfur After Years of Waiting
The Cabinet, in its regular meeting this afternoon in Khartoum, chaired by His Excellency the Prime Minister, Professor Kamil, approved the draft law for the Darfur Regional Governance System for the year 2026, presented by the Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Dirif.
His Excellency the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of strengthening the spirit of national unity and social integration among all components of the Sudanese people and regions. He affirmed that the Darfur region is a cherished part of this nation and that the entire national will is united in bringing this region back into the fold of the homeland by supporting the Armed Forces and the Sudanese people in their war against the rebel terrorist militia. He also stressed the importance of fostering unity and integration among all tribal groups in the country.
The Governor of Darfur, Mr. Minni Arko Minnawi, commended the Cabinet for its unanimous and cohesive approval of the Darfur Regional Governance System Bill for 2026, after years of its initial drafting.
The Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Mr. Khalid Al-Eisir, stated in a press release that the Cabinet discussed a report on gold exports. He explained that the Director of the Economic Security Authority presented an overview of the economic and security policies and procedures, as well as the efforts undertaken by all relevant parties to support the government’s gold export plans.
The Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism further stated that the Cabinet heard a briefing from the Chairman of the Integrity and Transparency Commission, Lieutenant General (Police) Abdeen Al-Tahir, regarding the Commission’s role in combating corruption and promoting the principles of good governance. The Minister emphasized that the Cabinet stressed the importance of the Commission operating professionally and with integrity, and adhering to objective principles.
The Minister of Culture and Information explained that the Cabinet listened to a briefing from the Governor of Red Sea State, Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohamed Nour, regarding the state’s efforts to support peaceful coexistence among all tribal groups in Red Sea State and plans to activate ports in the east of the country.
Al-Eisir reiterated that the government of hope is working towards a cohesive development system through enacting new laws and moving forward in combating corruption, drugs, and smuggling.
