Sudan Prepares to Participate in the 4th African School Championship in Rwanda

On Thursday, Abdul Jalil Saleh Abkar, Director of the General Administration of School Activities at the Federal Ministry of Education, chaired a meeting of the administrative committee for the 4th African School Championship, whose finals are scheduled to be held in Rwanda next July.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the competitions, which have already begun in the states. Currently, qualifying rounds are underway to select one football team from each state. The meeting also reviewed the administrative and technical arrangements aimed at ensuring a successful participation.

Abdul Jalil Saleh, head of the championship’s administrative committee, explained that this competition is a sporting event for primary and intermediate school students aged 12 to 14.

He pointed out that the most important objectives of the championship are to promote educational values, sportsmanship, and tolerance, discover talented footballers, and strengthen student diplomatic relations between countries. He emphasized the Ministry’s interest in this educational activity due to the young age of the participants.

This is the fourth edition of the tournament, which began in 2023. Sudan participated in the inaugural edition with two teams: Al-Jeel Boys’ School from West Darfur State and Al-Hilla Al-Jadeeda Girls’ School from Khartoum State. Sudan missed the second and third editions due to the circumstances in the country, but returns for the fourth edition in Rwanda.

The tournament is expected to attract significant public interest, showcasing the ability of schools to develop talent for Sudanese football, continuing the historical tradition where school tournaments have been the primary source of Sudanese football’s elite players.
