The Prime Minister directs the launch of the “Malaria Free Sudan” initiative

Prime Minister Kamel Idris was briefed on the health situation and the operation of medical institutions in the country during his meeting today with the Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed.

The Minister of Health explained in a press statement that the meeting addressed the general health situation, especially regarding emergencies and epidemics and their control, stressing the stability of health conditions and the oversight of competent agencies over all epidemics. He also pointed out that the operation of hospitals and medical institutions has exceeded 80%, reflecting a marked improvement in the performance of the health sector.

The meeting discussed the Prime Minister’s “Malaria-Free Sudan” initiative, which will be launched soon with the participation of state institutions, UN agencies, and partners, with the aim of combating the spread of the disease and strengthening national efforts in this field.

The meeting also discussed Sudan’s expected participation in the General Assembly meetings of the World Health Organization in Geneva, where the Prime Minister will address the participating delegations to present the country’s urgent health needs. In addition, arrangements will be made for meetings with a number of donors and supporters to bolster the health system.
