Sudan: No Reason to Continue Implementing WB Projects Through a Third Party

Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Counselor Mohamed Nour Abdeldaim, discussed the pivotal role of the African Group 1 (AG1) at the World Bank in directing financing and development advice to support countries.

During his meeting with the World Bank Executive Director for the African Group 1 (AG1) at the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington (Monday), he explained that Sudan has qualified to implement the policies for countries experiencing wars and conflicts and deserves direct support. He added that the banking system has returned to functioning effectively and that there is no reason to continue implementing projects through a third party, which negatively impacts the economic situation.

The minister stressed the need to re-engage with and convert projects implemented through third parties into direct support projects for Sudan, given the negative impact of the current system on the country and the resulting weakness in implementation and monitoring efficiency.

During the meeting, the Minister of State provided an overview of the economic and financial situation in Sudan, as well as the developments and repercussions of the Iran-Iraq War.
