Kuwaiti Delegation Arrives in Sudan to Deliver 11,000 Food Baskets to Displaced People

Kuwait’s Ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Fahad Al-Dhafeeri, announced that Kuwait, through its humanitarian and charitable organizations, has delivered thousands of food baskets to those displaced by the war in the Darfur and Kordofan regions of Sudan, in addition to Ramadan food baskets for needy families.

In a press release, Ambassador Al-Dhafeeri stated that this humanitarian support comes in implementation of the directives of the wise political leadership, may God protect and preserve them, and is a continuation of the role played by the State of Kuwait towards the Sudanese people since the outbreak of the war. This support has included an air bridge of 36 flights, as well as a sea bridge comprising three ships carrying thousands of tons of food and medical aid. Furthermore, direct support has been provided through projects implemented by Kuwaiti organizations through their offices in Sudan, benefiting millions of affected and needy people.

He added that the State of Kuwait, through its international and UN partnerships, has contributed to providing humanitarian aid to the brotherly Sudanese people, noting the recent joint Kuwaiti-British funding of $10 million to support UNICEF projects.

He explained that the Direct Aid Society, in coordination with the embassy, ​​will launch a project tomorrow, Tuesday, to distribute more than 11,000 food baskets to displaced people in seven states, including Khartoum, South and North Kordofan, and White Nile, in addition to camps for displaced people from Darfur and Kordofan. The Governor of the Red Sea State and the Sudanese Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid will be present at the launch ceremony.

The Society will also launch the distribution of hundreds of Ramadan food baskets to those in need in several Sudanese states.

He pointed out that a delegation from the Direct Aid Society, led by Director General Dr. Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al-Sumait, arrived in Sudan to launch the projects and oversee the distribution operations in the displaced persons’ shelters.

Ambassador Al-Dhafeeri stated that the International Islamic Charitable Organization will also launch a Ramadan food basket project in eastern Sudan, specifically in the Red Sea and Kassala states.

He expressed his appreciation to all Kuwaiti entities supporting these projects and thanked all Sudanese authorities that facilitated the implementation of these humanitarian projects to ensure their delivery to those in need.

He affirmed that the State of Kuwait will continue its support for its brothers and sisters in Sudan until they overcome their hardship and restore security, safety, and stability to their country.
