Sudan and the WHO Sign Plan to Strengthen the Health System for 2026-2027

The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Sudan, Dr. Shibl Sahbani, signed a joint plan for the years 2026-2027 in Port Sudan yesterday (Friday), according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

The Minister and the UN official discussed the organization’s interventions in supporting the health sector in Sudan. The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with the WHO, emphasizing that the plan includes multiple components aimed at strengthening the health system in the country. He also praised the technical and logistical support provided by the organization at the regional and global levels and thanked the staff who contributed to preparing the signed plan.

For his part, Dr. Shibl explained that the partnership includes cooperation with the African Development Bank and the implementation of several development projects. He noted that the agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the WHO extends for two years and aims to build a robust health system that meets the needs of Sudanese citizens.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, also addressed arrangements for Sudan’s participation in the World Health Assembly scheduled for May 2026. The Minister expressed his appreciation for the WHO’s significant efforts in supporting health projects and providing ongoing technical assistance to Sudan.
