Indian Prime Minister Receives Sudanese Foreign Minister

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem at his residence in New Delhi on Saturday. Salem is visiting India to participate in the Arab-Indian Ministerial Meeting, organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in cooperation with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

The Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of the Sudanese Prime Minister to his Indian counterpart and expressed Sudan’s pride in its historical relations with India. He also expressed the gratitude of the Sudanese government and people for India’s support during the difficult circumstances the country is facing.

The Minister briefed his Indian counterpart on the latest developments in Sudan and the situation on various fronts, including the Government of Hope’s peace initiative and the government’s return to Khartoum. He emphasized Sudan’s aspiration to build a strategic partnership with India during the reconstruction phase, through activating bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two countries’ foreign ministries, building on the discussions held during his meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister the previous day.

Minister Salem expressed his hope that the bilateral efforts and discussions would culminate in an exchange of visits at the senior official level across various sectors between the two countries.

For his part, the Indian Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to his Sudanese counterpart, the Foreign Minister, and affirmed India’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in all fields. He emphasized India’s interest in cooperating with partners and friends on the African continent, hoping to achieve the development aspirations of the countries of the Global South. He also stressed India’s interest in its presence in Sudan and that the doors are open for discussions at the diplomatic level between the two countries to activate aspects of cooperation in various official and popular sectors.
