Eritrean President receives Jibril and Al-Eisir
Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki received Sudanese Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim and Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism Mr. Khalid Al-Eisir in the rural area of Adi Halo, as part of the official visit of the Sudanese delegation to Eritrea.
The meeting addressed the overall bilateral relations between Sudan and Eritrea and ways to strengthen and develop them in various fields. They also discussed prospects for joint coordination on issues of mutual interest and consulted on regional and international developments.
The two sides also touched upon the importance of continued communication and political coordination to serve the interests of both countries and enhance stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
During the meeting, the two ministers conveyed to the Eritrean President the appreciation of the Sudanese government and people for Eritrea’s supportive stances towards Sudan. They commended Eritrea for the facilities and care it provides to Sudanese residents and those transiting through its territory, particularly given the exceptional circumstances the country is facing.
They also expressed their appreciation for President Afwerki’s political positions in support of Sudan’s unity, security, and stability, and his solidarity with the Sudanese state and its people in confronting current challenges.
For his part, the Eritrean President affirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening its historical relations with Sudan and supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the two countries in addressing shared challenges.
In related news, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, and the Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Mr. Khalid Al-Eisir, participated yesterday in the ceremony held by the Sudanese Embassy in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sudan’s independence.
The ceremony was widely attended, including a number of Eritrean ministers and officials, as well as ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Eritrea, members of the Sudanese Embassy, and a large gathering of Sudanese and Eritrean citizens.
The program included the screening of a documentary film that addressed the developments in Sudan, the crimes of the Rapid Support Forces militia, and highlighted the external support provided to them, as well as the involvement of several countries in the events that targeted the Sudanese state and its people.
The ceremony also included artistic and cultural performances featuring a selection of patriotic songs and poems that expressed the values of independence, unity, and resilience.
The Sudanese Ambassador to Eritrea, Osama Ahmed Abdel Bari, delivered a speech highlighting the milestones of the Sudanese people’s struggle for independence and their sacrifices over the decades. He emphasized the depth and strength of Sudanese-Eritrean relations and the historical, geographical, and shared interests that bind the two countries.
The ceremony concluded with the playing of the national anthems of the Republic of Sudan and the State of Eritrea.
