Al-Burhan: We Will Not Sit with the Militia Until They Completely Lay Down their Arms

Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed that the armed forces will not sit at the negotiating table with the Rapid Support Forces militia until they completely lay down their arms.

In an interview with Al Arabiya channel, Burhan stressed that the rebels’ withdrawal from the areas they have occupied and the surrender of their weapons are essential conditions for the success of any truce or settlement.

Al-Burhan said: “The solution is military, and then other solutions will follow… War has been imposed on us, and we will continue it to the end until we restore the state and its institutions from the hands of the rebel militia.”

In response to accusations of Muslim Brotherhood influence within the army or government, Al-Burhan categorically denied these claims, describing them as baseless.

He added, “The Sudanese people overthrew the Brotherhood in their revolution in December 2018, and we will not allow them or the Rapid Support Forces to return under any circumstances.”

Regarding diplomatic efforts, Al-Burhan reiterated his welcome of any opportunity to achieve genuine peace, praising the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States, and specifically commending the role of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the US President. He announced the armed forces’ readiness to engage positively with the joint Saudi-American initiative, but warned that any unilateral initiative could not succeed.
