The Sudanese army halts the RSF advance in Kordofan

On Monday, the Sudanese army made further gains against the RSF in North Kordofan state, recapturing the strategic city of Bara after fierce battles and simultaneous attacks launched with the support of allied forces on several RSF positions in the state.

This advance follows the army’s recapture on Saturday of the village of Umm Dam Haj Ahmed, northeast of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, and the Kazqil area, south of El Obeid. The army has also deployed significant forces to secure cities and main roads that were threatened by the RSF concentrations.

The Sudanese army, supported by allied forces, launched a large-scale offensive in North Kordofan state in recent days, recapturing several areas previously held by the RSF. The army deployed significant forces throughout the state, halting the RSF’s advance towards the cities of El Obeid, El Rahad, and Umm Ruwaba. It also recaptured several villages surrounding El Obeid. Furthermore, the army launched airstrikes on neighboring South Kordofan state, where forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), which supports the RSF, are based. Additional airstrikes were carried out in West Kordofan state, along with drone attacks on RSF strongholds in the cities of Nyala and El Geneina in Darfur.

Early Monday morning, the army, along with the Sudan Shield Forces and a joint force of armed groups supporting the army, launched simultaneous attacks on several RSF-held areas in North Kordofan state. They managed to enter the village of Umm Sayala and the strategic city of Bara. Soldiers posted videos on social media confirming that they had been engaged in heavy fighting with the RSF since the morning.
