Egyptian Foreign Minister Heads to Sudan 

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, departed today (Tuesday) for Port Sudan on a bilateral visit. During his visit, he will hold talks with senior Sudanese officials to discuss prospects for developing cooperation between the two brotherly countries and exchange views on the latest developments in the Sudanese crisis and ways to support efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement that preserves Sudan’s security and stability.

Minister Abdel-Aty preceded his visit with statements yesterday, broadcast by Cairo News Channel, in which he discussed “the developments in the difficult field and humanitarian situation in Sudan and the constants of the Egyptian position regarding it.”

The minister stated that among these constants are: “There are no military solutions to the crisis; preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan; the division of Sudan is a red line for Egypt, which will not accept or allow it under any circumstances; and emphasizing the importance of protecting the Sudanese people’s resources from destruction and sabotage.”

He added that another of Egypt’s constants regarding the situation in Sudan is working towards implementing the Quartet Declaration as issued on September 12th, which includes a clear roadmap beginning with a humanitarian truce leading to an immediate ceasefire. This would establish an inclusive political process that leaves no one out, paving the way for a Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led process that safeguards the resources of the brotherly Sudanese people.

This visit marks the second time the Egyptian Foreign Minister has visited Port Sudan in approximately one month. Egyptian diplomacy has been actively addressing Sudanese concerns about pressure exerted by some members of the Quartet to advance an agenda detrimental to Sudan’s national interests and contrary to the will of its people.
