Sudan signs regional health cooperation agreement with Yemen, Somalia and Djibouti

Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Federal Minister of Health, signed the joint cooperation agreement for the Health Alliance between the four countries: Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and Djibouti, in the presence of the Ministers of Health from the concerned countries, and the Director of the Department for International Health, Dr. Alaa Al-Tayeb Mudassir, and with the coordination and technical support of the World Health Organization (WHO) Office.

The agreement aims to strengthen regional coordination in multiple areas, including mobilizing resources, studying health plans, and addressing epidemics and diseases, in order to raise the efficiency of the health response in signatory countries.

It was agreed to hold the first meeting of the Joint Mechanism in Sudan next January, marking the beginning of a new phase of technical cooperation and health integration between the four countries.

The agreement is the result of months of technical meetings, with the participation of the Director-General for International Health, and is a strategic step towards achieving the Sustainable Health Development Goals, especially in light of the common challenges these countries face, such as climate change, the movement of displaced people, and the threat of outbreaks.
