Finance State Minister Meets with World Bank Group Legal Advisor

Counselor Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, State Finance Minister, met with the Deputy Legal Advisor of the World Bank Group, Ms. Sheila Baraka Musimi, and her accompanying delegation to discuss recent developments in Sudan and the impact of the ongoing war. The discussions also addressed the extent of the widespread destruction of infrastructure. The discussions were attended by Mohamed Bashar Adam, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah Idris, Sudan’s Ambassador to the United States, and the accompanying delegation.

The Minister reviewed the government’s efforts to provide a conducive environment for the return of citizens to their areas and reconstruction projects, particularly in the health, water, and education sectors. He highlighted the country’s development needs and priorities for support from the World Bank within the framework of the financing mechanisms and formulas the Bank follows to finance infrastructure projects serving citizens. The Minister also highlighted the financial and economic impacts of the war.
For her part, the Deputy Legal Advisor requested that the delegation provide the necessary data to assess institutional capacity to implement projects, given the extent of infrastructure damage. This data is essential, and consideration should be given to providing it at a time when support is increasingly needed, particularly in light of the resulting devastation and humanitarian crises.

The meeting concluded positively, with understandings reached regarding strengthening the relationship between Sudan and the World Bank through the ongoing reform process and progress toward peace.
