The Government of Sudan expresses its firm desire to establish a just peace in Sudan, a peace that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and restores their dignity, rights, and property from the terrorist RSF militia, which targeted land, honor, and wealth.
The conclusion reached by the European Union Council on Sudan clearly demonstrated the inappropriate handling of the situation in Sudan. It also highlighted the overlapping agendas of various countries and their desire to prioritize their own supreme interests over achieving peace as a fundamental principle in Sudan. The openness and engagement of the Government of Sudan with the regional and international communities to achieve peace does not mean accepting any party that does not respect Sudan’s sovereignty over its territory, the unity of its territory, and the dignity of its people. It also does not accept equating itself with a racist terrorist militia in any political process that would replicate the experiences that led to the rebellion of the RSF militia, exploiting international platforms to buy time to organize its ranks and recruit mercenaries under the pretext of a humanitarian ceasefire.
The Council ignored the terrorist militia’s continued siege of El Fasher and its use of starvation, forced displacement, and systematic violence against women, the elderly, and children as weapons of war, despite regional and international appeals and resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2736/2024. The European Council would have been more effective in pressuring the rebel militia to implement this resolution, rather than demanding a truce that would give the terrorist militia sufficient time to catch its breath and mobilize its forces, as it did during the Jeddah negotiations. The Council also ignored the efforts made by the Sudanese government to remove obstacles to aid organizations operating in Sudan, open humanitarian corridors, and other measures approved and praised by these organizations.
The double standards in dealing with Sudanese affairs and the disregard for the transgressions of the RSF terrorist militia were clearly evident in the conclusions of the European Union Council, which legitimized negotiations with a terrorist group that has killed, looted, and destroyed the resources of the Sudanese people. The Council also re-emphasized this group in a new political guise, providing it with a platform to engage with regional and international actors.
The Government of Sudan reminds the European Council of the positions of the regional organizations to which Sudan belongs, most notably the Arab League and the African Union, which condemned the violations of the terrorist militia and affirmed their support for the Sudanese government in its efforts to establish peace and security in the country. While appreciating the European Council’s affirmation of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, it expresses its readiness to continue constructive dialogue with the European Union based on these principles. Furthermore, it affirms that providing security and stability for the Sudanese people and restoring their rights and gains is the Government of Sudan’s most important duty and constitutes its primary reference for constructive engagement with the regional and international communities.
