EU: We will not forget the people of Sudan at this time

The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Sudan announced the commencement of Ambassador Wolfram Vetter’s duties as Chargé d’Affaires and Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Sudan.

In a message on the occasion of his appointment, Wolf said, “I am honored to be entrusted with the task of representing the European Union to the Republic of Sudan in Cairo during this unfortunate period of war and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

He added, “My team and I will strive to maintain and further develop the strong and long-standing relationship between Sudan and the European Union and ensure that the people of Sudan are not forgotten or left behind during this time of uncertainty and hardship.”

He continued, “Over the past years, and especially since the outbreak of war in Sudan in 2023, the European Union has played a pivotal role in supporting the Sudanese people.

He continued, “The European people, the European Union and its Member States, along with their Sudanese partners, are committed to assisting Sudan in its efforts to end the war, achieve a permanent ceasefire, provide development assistance, enhance humanitarian assistance, and work with regional and international partners to enable the Sudanese people to achieve their aspirations for peace, justice, and freedom.”

He stated, “My goal is to foster dialogue with all segments of the Sudanese people, most importantly the young generation, who represent Sudan’s future, and Sudanese women, who represent half of its population, in addition to promoting humanitarian projects.” and development cooperation between Sudan and the European Union, which will save lives and create tangible opportunities in the areas of food security, education, health, capacity building, and climate change.

He said that for the European Union, Sudan is a country rich in natural and human resources, with a long history and a diverse culture, a blend of Arab, African, Islamic, and Christian cultures.

He added that Sudan’s geostrategic location on the Red Sea, at the heart of Africa, underscores our interests, and our commitment is unquestionable. He also noted that we, as Europeans, recognize the influence of the Sudanese community living in European countries, who are productive, influential, and successful members of the European Union.
