Energy Minister Presents Vision for Sector Revival at 8th Russian Energy Week
During the 8th Russian Energy Week in Moscow, Engineer Advisor to the Minister of Energy, Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed, revealed a comprehensive strategy aimed at rebuilding and modernizing the national energy sector, which was severely damaged by the war waged by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia and its local and international allies against the state and its facilities.
In his speech at the main session, the Minister of Energy said that the plan aims at restoring oil and gas production in war-affected areas, increase operational reliability across all phases of the oil industry, and increase electricity generation capacity, utilizing modern technologies in managing transmission and distribution networks to support national reconstruction.
Moatasem emphasized that “the cornerstone of our strategy is reliance on national cadres who have maintained core operations despite the challenges,” pointing to significant investments in advanced technical training and professional certification programs to qualify cadres to manage new-generation energy systems. Regarding the challenge of brain drain, the Minister of Energy announced a plan to establish specialized institutes in energy technology and research, in partnership with universities and the private sector, to develop programs in energy systems and renewable energy.
Engineer and Advisor Moatasem Ibrahim also emphasized that “oil and gas exploration and production remain two important pillars,” noting that the state is working to rehabilitate existing oil fields and attract international investment, while ensuring a balanced transition to renewable energy and cleaner combustion technologies. Concluding his speech, the Minister of Energy invited the international community to participate in the “reconstruction journey” through partnerships in knowledge transfer, joint research, and the exchange of expertise, to build an energy sector that supports economic recovery in Sudan.
It is worth noting that the 8th Russian Energy Week is one of the largest international forums specializing in the energy sector, bringing together officials and experts from around the world to discuss the future of global energy.
