Al-Burhan Meets with German State Minister at the German Foreign Ministry
Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, stressed the importance of Germany’s role as a key member of the European Union, especially as it has been one of Sudan’s largest supporters over the past decades.
This came during a meeting today in his office with Sarab Ghawar, Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry. The meeting discussed the results of her two-day visit to the country, during which she visited those affected by the war.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, said that Head of the Sovereignty Council briefed the visiting official on the developments in Sudan in light of the violations committed by the RSF terrorist militia against the state, its institutions, and the Sudanese people.
He emphasized the importance of Germany’s positive engagement to find a solution and persuade the militia and its supporters to stop the war and end the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The Minister explained that she had visited Chad and held talks with Chadian government officials, as well as meetings with a number of Sudanese refugees on the Sudanese-Chadian border, during which she learned about the extent of the suffering they face.
She stated that during her visit, she sensed the Sudanese people’s desire for peace so that people could return to work, children to school, and millions of refugees to their homes. She said, “This war must stop immediately.”
She added that the situation in El Fasher is extremely dire, noting that the Rapid Support Forces have besieged El Fasher for more than 500 days, attacking facilities, places of worship, and shelters. She affirmed her country’s condemnation of acts of gender-based sexual violence, which are being used as a weapon of war on a regular basis by the Rapid Support Forces. She called on the Rapid Support Forces to immediately end the siege of El Fasher and respect international humanitarian law.
The German Minister of State for Foreign Affairs called on all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law, noting that she thanked the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council for his efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the displaced.
Noting the improvement in this regard, she emphasized the importance of the presence of United Nations organizations throughout Sudan to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the country. She also expressed her country’s support for all sincere efforts to establish peace in Sudan and ensure a comprehensive, civilian-led transitional process.
The German Minister said that her country and European countries stand with the Sudanese people.
