Sudan calls on international community to support reconstruction

Sudan reiterated its call on the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support its efforts to reconstruct institutions related to the peaceful uses of atomic energy, stressing the country’s aspiration to enhance cooperation and harness the country’s great potential in the field of agriculture to achieve the goals of the Corn for Food initiative launched by the IAEA and FAO in October 2023.
This came in the statement presented by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ahmed Mudawi Moussa, to the meetings of the 69th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which began its work today in Vienna.
The Minister called on the IAEA to dispatch a technical team to assess the extent of the destruction and enormous damage caused to all institutions related to the peaceful uses of atomic energy, thanking the IAEA for its continuous support to the country and for sending a technical mission to assess the situation in the radiation treatment centers in Khartoum, Wood Madani and Sindhi within the framework of the Agency’s initiative “Rays of Hope for the Treatment of Cancer”, and for its support to the country in combating plastic pollution of the seas. related to nuclear security and safety and the IAEA comprehensive safeguards system.
It is worth mentioning that the delegation of Sudan participating in the IAEA General Conference included representatives of the National Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Regulation, the Sudanese Atomic Energy Commission, and the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, and will meet with the Director General of the IAEA and his deputies for technical cooperation, nuclear science and applications, and nuclear security and safety, and participate in other events, and organize an exhibition on the sidelines of the General Conference that reviews part of the Agency’s support for the country in the past period and the destruction of relevant national institutions of the peaceful uses of atomic energy in the country.
