$47 Million from UNFPA to Support Sudan

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) revealed that the funding allocated to Sudan for the current year 2025 amounts to approximately $47 million, while the expected funding for the period 2026-2028 amounts to approximately $75 million. During his meeting with Bruno Hoskin, Deputy Country Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), at the ministry today, Mr. Mohammed Bashar, Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, emphasized the government’s focus on the health sector as a priority and the foundation of human development. He pointed to the importance of the Fund’s role in supporting priority sectors, emphasizing its interest in coordinating with United Nations organizations to implement funding from regional and international institutions and enhancing opportunities to benefit from cash support provided to citizens through some organizations, including the World Food Program (WFP).

Ms. Ikhlas Mohamed Ali, Director General of External Financing, said that the Ministry of Finance is the government’s general coordinator with all United Nations organizations and agencies in managing country programs and monitoring their implementation in coordination with relevant technical authorities.

Bruno, Deputy Country Director, indicated that the Fund’s strategic partners in Sudan are the federal and state governments and local civil society organizations. He presented a visual presentation of the implementation of the Fund’s programs in Sudan during the past year, 2024. These programs focus on local community priorities, such as building health sector capacity, raising public awareness, and providing health services to conflict-affected areas through solar-powered mobile clinics for emergency treatment and primary healthcare for mothers and newborns. He noted the Fund’s continued support through its permanent offices in the states of Port Sudan, Gedaref, Kassala, and River Nile, in addition to support for Darfur through Chad.
