Workshop on the first line of support for rape survivors

As part of the Health Assistance and Health Response Project and the Strengthening Resilience Project, funded by the World Bank through UNICEF, a training of trainers workshop on the first line of support for rape survivors, organized by the National Program for Reproductive Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, in Kassala , targeting reproductive health officials and midwifery supervisors from 12 states.

In the opening session, the Director of the Maternal and Child Health Department, Dr. Ismahan Al-Khair Esfiria, stressed the importance of the workshop to acquire the necessary skills for midwives, as they represent the first support for survivors of rape, in addition to being an opportunity to exchange experiences, knowledge and shared responsibility in support of survivors, noting the need to unify concepts, appreciating the roles of partners from international organizations, especially UNICEF and the United Nations Population Program.

For her part, the Director of the National Program for Reproductive Health, Amal Mahmoud, said that the training comes within the Health Assistance and Health Response Project funded by the World Bank through UNICEF, targeting 12 states, pointing out that the delay in responding to gender-based violence, including rape, contributes to the delay of survival during the first 72 hours, so the training came to make the midwife fully aware, as she is the first health staff to interview a rape survivor.

Mahmoud called on the participants to come up with a plan to implement the training in their state, noting that the workshop lasts for four days.
