The Minister of Human Resources Directs the Activation of the Mandatory Health Insurance Law

The Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Mutassim Ahmed Saleh, directed the need to activate the mandatory health insurance law to include all citizens, stressing the importance of expanding the umbrella of insurance coverage and improving the quality of health services.5

The Minister said, in the enlightening meeting held today at the headquarters of the National Health Insurance Fund in Port Sudan under the title “Health Insurance… The Present and Future Prospects”, said that the Fund continues to provide excellent services that cover the needs of citizens despite the losses suffered by its health facilities in the center and the states.

He pointed out that the volume of losses in health facilities and institutions has not yet been counted due to the fact that a number of states are under the control of militias, praising the Fund’s ability to provide services of a quality comparable to those provided by some foreign countries.

Saleh pledged to achieve concrete steps within the first 100 days of the Prime Minister’s government to expand the circle of insurance coverage, calling for the need to rehabilitate and operate health facilities destroyed by the war to provide health services inside Sudan and to displaced Sudanese in neighboring countries, including Egypt, Chad, Libya, Eritrea and Uganda.

The Minister acknowledged that the lack of funding and the non-commitment of some entities to pay contributions have had a negative impact on the level of services provided, stressing at the same time that the Fund made great efforts during the war period to ensure the continuity of providing insurance services to citizens without interruption.

He also pledged to provide the necessary government funding and activate partnerships with friendly countries and regional and international organizations to provide high-level insurance services.
