The “Return of Hope” project is a strategic step to strengthen the health system in Sudan by supporting the provision of equipment and the rehabilitation of therapeutic and diagnostic services, especially specialists. It was discussed in a meeting chaired by the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, with the participation of directors of public departments, national programs, and units affiliated with the ministry.
The project includes a set of initiatives aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of the health sector, including the rehabilitation of the National Cancer Center in Madani, the development of the services of the National Heart Center, the National Digestive System Centers, the localization of kidney transplant services, and supporting the rehabilitation of Khartoum Hospital, in addition to improving the services of emergency and critical care departments , As well as implementing projects to rehabilitate and localize specialized services and supporting public health departments, all of which come within the framework of contributing to reconstruction efforts.
During the meeting, the Undersecretary explained that the total cost of the projects is $14 million, noting that the project represents a strong push towards expanding the scope of medical services, especially in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through. The project is part of the policies that support the provision of advanced health services, which contribute to reducing pressure on health institutions and providing specialized treatment inside Sudan, thereby reducing dependence on external referrals and raising the level of local sufficiency in the fields of advanced treatment.
The Undersecretary pointed out that the project contributes to improving the health services provided in the states and was designed based on a field survey to determine the actual needs.especially in areas affected by the war. Funding has been allocated by the Federal Ministry of Finance to implement the first phase of the restoration of specialized services, as part of the recently approved reconstruction strategy, targeting safe states at this stage.
