Joint Meeting between the Ministry of Health and Turkey on Nyala Turkish Hospital

A joint meeting was held in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ambassador of Turkey to Sudan, along with the concerned ministries of health in Turkey and Sudan and a representative of the Ministry of Finance.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health explained that the main objective was to ensure the continuity of providing health services to citizens in South Darfur State, especially in light of the difficult security conditions. The performance report was reviewed, which included statistics on the services provided, most notably maternal health operations such as cesarean sections, dialysis, and emergency interventions. They also discussed the challenges of running the work, security conditions, and the entitlements of medical staff.

The Ambassador stressed the importance of continuing the support provided to the hospital through joint coordination with the Sudanese Ministry of Health and the Agency, which requires the provision of drug supplies and support for financial and operational requirements. The Undersecretary also pointed out that the hospital receives direct support from Turkey, including medicines, fuel, and food, in addition to workers’ benefits. He explained that the medical staff working in the hospital are all Sudanese, as their number was previously 507 and has decreased to 270 due to the current circumstances.

He also revealed that the Turkish mission that was working in the hospital left in December 2023 as a result of the security situation, but he stressed the continued support of the State of Turkey for the hospital. It was agreed to enhance coordination and overcome obstacles to ensure the continuity of work during the next phase.
