Foreign Minister Holds Bilateral Talks with Russian Counterpart on the Sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Ali Youssef, met today with his Russian counterpart, Mr. Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey.

The Minister reiterated his thanks to his Russian counterpart for his continued communication, noting their recent fruitful meeting in Moscow.

During the meeting, the Minister provided a detailed update on developments in Sudan, reviewing the recent field victories achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces, most notably the recapture of the capital, Khartoum.

He emphasized the Sudanese government’s commitment to restoring security and stability throughout the country.

The Minister praised the steady positive development of bilateral relations between the two countries and the ongoing coordination between them in all fields. In this context, he noted the ongoing arrangements for holding meetings of the Joint Ministerial Committee between the two countries, scheduled to be held in Port Sudan at the end of this month.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s firm and supportive position towards Sudan and Russia’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese government in international forums, especially in the Security Council.

Mr. Lavrov praised the level of coordination between the two sides at the political and diplomatic levels.

In a related context, the Russian Minister noted the scholarships Russia provides to Sudanese students, expressing his country’s readiness to consider increasing them in the future, if there is a real need for this, as part of its ongoing support for capacity building in Sudan and enhancing cooperation in the fields of education and training.

The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of bilateral relations and their keenness to continue coordination and consultation on various regional and international issues.
