Foreign Minister holds talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow

Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef held talks today with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov at the guest house of the Russian Foreign Ministry in the Russian capital, Moscow.

The minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Russian Federation, government and people, for Russia’s use of its veto in the UN Security Council against the British draft resolution on November 18, 2024 regarding Sudan.
He added that Russia’s solidarity with Sudan in light of the crisis it faces, and its support for national legitimacy, the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stands as a testament to the depth and strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
He said that the Russian position was met with warm welcome and praise at all official and popular levels in Sudan. The talks touched on bilateral relations between Sudan and the Russian Federation in the political, economic and cultural fields.
The two parties affirmed the common will to advance and develop these relations to reach the stage of strategic partnership between the two countries in all fields.
The Minister briefed his Russian counterpart on the current situation in the country, especially the great victories achieved by the armed forces and other supporting forces in light of the people’s solidarity and solid support behind them.
He addressed the violations of the rebel militia in various regions of Sudan, their targeting of infrastructure and civilians in Sudan, and their violation of all international and humanitarian norms and laws, especially their systematic crimes against women and girls in childhood, including rape, sexual slavery, massacres against civilians and other atrocities.
The Minister also touched on the efforts of the Sudanese government to establish peace and its position on the proposed initiatives and its vision for resuming the democratic transition in order to achieve stability, growth and development for the country.
For his part, Lavrov praised the distinguished historical relations between the two countries, stressing Russia’s support for Sudan in all international forums.
He expressed Russia’s determination to make every effort and take appropriate measures to raise relations between the two countries to higher levels, and to benefit from the capabilities and potentials of both to achieve the common interests of the peoples of the two countries.
He expressed Russia’s readiness to participate in the reconstruction process in accordance with the plans and programs set by the Sudanese government. He pointed out that there is a political will available in both countries to take practical steps to upgrade and develop relations through existing joint cooperation mechanisms.
The talks also addressed regional and international issues of common interest..
The two sides renewed their commitment to exchange support and coordination between the two countries in international forums.
