Finance Minister urges Japanese companies to invest in Sudan

Dr. Gibril Ibrahim Mohamed, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, met with Oguchi Masaki, Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan – on the sidelines of his participation in the Japan-Africa Economic Forum held in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan.
During the meeting, the Minister praised the Japanese support and grants provided for a number of projects implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the fields of agriculture, water and environmental rehabilitation; stressing his interest in developing cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields, especially economic cooperation relations; reviewing Sudan’s diverse and promising resources in the fields of agriculture, livestock, minerals, natural gas, ports, tourism and the fisheries sector, calling on the Japanese government and companies to exploit the available opportunities to invest in Sudan in these fields and participate in the reconstruction phase, stressing the imminent end of the war and the return of security and peace to Sudan.
The Minister stressed the importance of resuming the work of the Japanese Embassy in Sudan and reopening the JICA office in Port Sudan.
For his part, the Japanese Minister stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Sudan, emphasizing the need to end the war and restore peace to the country to exploit the promising opportunities that Sudan enjoys.
He promised the return of Japanese companies to work in Sudan and contribute to the reconstruction efforts. The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening the bonds of cooperation between the two countries in various economic, commercial and investment fields.
It is noteworthy that the meeting was attended by Dr. Al-Jili Muhammad Abdul Hamid, Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Sudanese Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire.
