African Development Bank allocates (10) million dollars for the Arbaat Dam redesign project

Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, Minister of Finance, met today with the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and his deputy, as part of his participation in the Japan-Africa Economic Forum held in the capital of Côte d’Ivoire, Abidjan.

The Minister provided a comprehensive briefing on the impact of the current war on the overall situation in Sudan.
The Minister expressed the Sudanese government’s appreciation for the African Development Bank’s continued support for various development fields and its support for the Sudanese private sector; stressing the importance of coordination between the government and the third party that will be chosen to implement the Bank’s new projects in Sudan to determine priorities and accelerate the implementation of projects, especially in the field of agricultural production, calling on the Bank to participate in assessing the extent of destruction and losses resulting from the war in cooperation with the Bank and the International Monetary Fund, which expressed their readiness to participate and lead efforts to hold a donor conference for Sudan to support reconstruction operations destroyed by the war.
The Minister also asked the Bank to allocate resources for humanitarian aid and provide the necessary technical support in the field of digital transformation.
For his part, Adesina stressed his interest in the development of the situation in Sudan, noting that Sudan is considered one of the promising countries in the field of resources in the Horn of Africa, pointing to the negative effects of the ongoing war in Sudan on all countries of the region, stressing the importance of restoring stability and peace and enhancing economic and development activity in Sudan.
He revealed the restructuring of the financing portfolio for projects funded by the bank and the adoption of the new structure during the first quarter of 2025 by the Executive Board of the bank, announcing that an amount of one hundred million dollars will be allocated to implement the second phase of the wheat project and ten million dollars to the project to redesign the Arbaat Dam in Port Sudan, in addition to allocating estimated amounts for social support projects for local communities and women and support for refugees and displaced persons, education and health.
The President of the Bank Group praised Sudan for fulfilling its obligations to the bank despite the difficult circumstances that Sudan is going through.
The two sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination between them and exchanging visits to achieve mutual benefits.
