UPEACE Partakes in the Stocktaking Dialogues – Local Solutions for Peaceful Coexistence

The University for Peace (UPEACE) participated in the Stalktalking Dialogue for Peaceful Coexistence with the participation of the UNHCR.

Dr. Mohamed Othman, the university representative, called for the need to support host countries and create permanent solutions for refugees until they can safely return to their countries.

He stressed the importance of the role of the UPEACE in promoting education and dialogue to build inclusive, just and peaceful societies

This week, in partnership with @Refugees and @GPPlatform, I participated in the Stocktaking Dialogues – Local Solutions for Peaceful Coexistence at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, hosted by @UPEACE. 🌍

The event opened with remarks by @RuvenMenik with UNHCR, @FRojasAravena with UPEACE, and @AnnyssaBellal with @GPPlatform. Moderation by @PuyanaFernandez ensured a smooth flow of discussions. I contributed by sharing African perspectives on peaceful coexistence, emphasizing the need to support host countries and create durable solutions for refugees. Achieving safe returns requires political reconciliation, security, and stability in their home countries.

I also addressed the pressing challenge of donor fatigue and proposed innovative funding sources, including private sectors, philanthropists, and climate finance institutions, to meet the urgent and long-term needs of refugees. Platforms like @UPEACE play a pivotal role in fostering education, dialogue, and track II diplomacy, enabling policymakers to engage in meaningful discussions in neutral environments.

Together, we advance local solutions to build inclusive, just, and peaceful communities.
