Workshop of JASP reviews Darfur Peace Agreement Protocol
The technical committee of the workshop for evaluating the implementation of the Juba peace agreement for Sudan, in Juba, reviewed, today the protocol for implementing Darfur Peace Agreement, and ways for pushing the concerned mechanisms to continue implementing the agreement.
Rapporteur of the mediation committee, Dr. Dhieu Matouk, in a press statement, following the session witnessed by President Salva Kiir’s advisor for security affairs, head of the mediation team, Tut Galwak, the acting Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, and the head of the Peace Commission, Dr. Suleiman al-Dabelo, indicated that the Juba peace agreement for Sudan embodied the model that the African Union aspires to, for addressing the continent’s issues, with African solutions, adding: “Because of the importance of the agreement, it must be adhered to by the signatories, mediation, and guarantors, to be a lesson from which Africans can benefit.”
He pointed out that the Darfur Peace Protocol includes eight protocols, of which only the power and security arrangements have been implemented, stressing that reviewing these protocols is of particular importance, in order to avoid shortcomings and activate the mechanisms concerned with its implementation.
Stressing that the current workshop will adopt a new approach, through a matrix based on new timings and schedules that contribute to the implementation process.
Meanwhile, the chief negotiator of the Justice and Equality Movement, the chief negotiator of the Darfur bloc, Ahmed Tugad Lisan, noted that the workshop mainly aims to inspect level of implementation of the peace agreement, after more than two years have passed, and to search for ways to bring the agreement to reality, expressing hope to come up with clear recommendations that enable competent authorities to take the required decisions to activate the mechanisms concerned with the implementation of the Darfur Peace Agreement.
He pointed out to a transparent discussion and positive depate during the workshop, to determine the required priorities, by focusing on the main mechanisms concerned with the implementation of the Darfur Peace Agreement.
