JPA Evaluation and Assessment Workshop Kicks-off in Juba

Amid considerable regional and international presence the sessions of the evaluation and assessment of Juba Peace Agreement (JPA) workshop convened today in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan chaired by the Advisor of South Sudan President for the Security Affairs, and chairman of the mediation committee, Tut Galwak and the representative of Sudan’s government Lt. Gen. Yassir Al-Atta besides the representatives of the peace process, Chad, UAE, the Egyptian Ambassador in Juba and the diplomatic corps in Juba.
For his part, Lt. Gen. Al-Atta said that today’s session with the peace process parties aimed at removing the obstacles hindering the implementation of the agreement, pointing out to the complicities of the process, calling on the parties of the peace process to overcome the complicities to resolve the political and economic issues.
He called on Al-Hilu and Abdulwahid to join the peace process.
Al-Atta lauded the role of South Sudan government and the mediation for their contribution in implementing the JPA, expressing hope that the workshop comes out with the recommendations that contribute in reactivating the time matrix and taking the required decisions on funding and timing on the matrix.
For his part, the Advisor of South Sudan President for Security Affairs, Tut Galwak affirmed the keenness of South Sudan government towards the stability of Sudan, pointing out that the workshop aims at amending the matrix timetables of the JPA.
Chairman of the Peace Commission, Dr. Sulieman Al-Debailo , emphasized the importance of the workshop in finding out the mechanisms to overcome the challenges ahead.
It is to be noted that member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Yassir Abdul-Rahman Al-Atta arrived Sunday in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, heading the Sudanese delegation participating in the activities of the workshop for the assessment and evaluation of the Juba Agreement for Sudan Peace.
General Al-Atta was received, at Juba International Airport, by the Adviser to the President of the Republic of South Sudan for Security Affairs, Head of Southern Mediation for Peace Negotiations Tut Galwak, the Mediation Rapporteur Dr. Dhieu Matouk, Sudan Ambassador to Juba Jamal Abdul-Majeed and members of the Sudan Embassy.
The Southern Sudanese Mediation Rapporteur welcomed, in a press statement, the delegation participating in the activities of the workshop to assess the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan, headed by member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council General Yassir Al-Atta, stressing the readiness of the mediation to support the efforts made so that the workshop achieves its goals.
Dr. Matouk pointed out that a two-day technical workshop would start meetings on Monday with the participation of senior negotiators, secretaries and various technical committees to prepare a technical report before the kick-off of the meetings of the heads of organizations, movements and the Government of Sudan, which will be held on February 16-17 and to be followed by a plenary meeting in which, TSC President General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan and President of the Republic of South Sudan General Salva Kiir Mayardit, are expected to participate.
For his part, the Chairman of the Peace Commission Dr. Suleiman Al-Debailo praised the concern of the Republic of South Sudan and its follow-up to the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan, expressing his optimism that the workshop would reach mechanisms and means that contribute to the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement, which faced many challenges.
The TSC is accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Lt. Gen Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, the head of the Peace Commission Dr. Suleiman Al-Debailo and the senior negotiators of the Juba peace agreement for Sudan, along with several experts and academicians.
