Representative of joint mechanism emphasizes importance of eastern Sudan issues in political process

The Special Envoy of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), representative of the joint tripartite mechanism, Ambassador Ismail Weiss, stressed the importance of eastern Sudan issues in the Sudanese political map, praising the signatory parties to the framework agreement for their commitment  to promoting Stability, peace and sustainable development in eastern Sudan.

In his address to the opening session of the road map workshop for political and security continuity and sustainable development for eastern Sudan within the activities of the 3rd phase of the framework agreement, Weiss said that the workshop outcomes concerned with eastern Sudan will be a road map to ensure developmental and political justice in eastern Sudan by the transitional government, praising the participants from the civil society sectors in the states of the three Easts states and the hardships in response to the invitation of the joint tripartite mechanism regarding the workshop, indicating that the workshop works to mobilize international support for the cause of eastern Sudan and to achieve development and stability.

It is worth noting that the workshop lasts from Sunday to the 15th of February, and was attended by members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, the joint tripartite mechanism, the political forces that signed the framework agreement, political parties, armed struggle movements, diplomats, and civil society sectors.
